The electorate remains divided, distrustful and open to arguments from either side. What the latest Quantus Insights national survey does show is a governing party carrying the burden of public discontent and an opposition party positioned to benefit from it. (See technical report and cross tabs here). \",\"type\":\"unstyled\",\"depth\":0,\"inlineStyleRanges\":[{\"offset\":432,\"length\":4,\"style\":\"BOLD\"}],\"entityRanges\":[{\"offset\":432,\"length\":4,\"key\":1}],\"data\":{}},{\"key\":\"c42hi\",\"text\":\"Among 1,048 likely voters surveyed Aug. 3-4, Democrats lead the generic congressional ballot, 49.0% to 42.6%. They hold a similar advantage when voters are asked which party they would prefer to control the U.S. Senate: 49.4% choose the Democrats and 43.5% the Republicans.\",\"type\":\"unstyled\",\"depth\":0,\"inlineStyleRanges\":[],\"entityRanges\":[],\"data\":{}},{\"key\":\"2a3a2\",\"text\":\"Those numbers represent a clear Democratic advantage, but not a wholesale national realignment. Republicans remain competitive because the country’s partisan foundations are still closely divided. Some 40.8% identify as either strong or leaning Democrats, compared with 36.9% who identify as strong or leaning Republicans. Another 22.3% claim no party preference.\",\"type\":\"unstyled\",\"depth\":0,\"inlineStyleRanges\":[],\"entityRanges\":[],\"data\":{}},{\"key\":\"es0r3\",\"text\":\"The deeper warning for the GOP lies with President Trump. His job approval stands at 41.5%, while 57.1% disapprove. More striking is the intensity: 52.7% strongly disapprove, compared with 37.6% who strongly approve. That is not merely dissatisfaction around the margins. It is an electorate in which the president’s opponents are more numerous and more emphatic than his supporters.\",\"type\":\"unstyled\",\"depth\":0,\"inlineStyleRanges\":[],\"entityRanges\":[],\"data\":{}},{\"key\":\"dsrqm\",\"text\":\"This imbalance is now affecting the broader Republican position. Democrats hold only a narrow advantage on which party voters trust to govern effectively and address the country’s major challenges, 37.6% to 35.2%. Yet nearly one-quarter of voters choose neither party, both parties equally or remain unsure. The public is not rallying to the Democrats so much as registering its disappointment with those presently in command.\",\"type\":\"unstyled\",\"depth\":0,\"inlineStyleRanges\":[],\"entityRanges\":[],\"data\":{}},{\"key\":\"9sdh5\",\"text\":\"Nowhere is that tension clearer than on tariffs. The administration can point to seven months of manufacturing expansion and renewed factory-employment growth. But many voters appear to feel the gains have come at too high a cost. Nearly half, 49.3%, say tariffs are raising prices and will ultimately hurt the economy more than they help. Another 4.9% believe manufacturing would have improved without them and that the administration is taking too much credit.\",\"type\":\"unstyled\",\"depth\":0,\"inlineStyleRanges\":[],\"entityRanges\":[],\"data\":{}},{\"key\":\"attn2\",\"text\":\"Together, 54.2% express a negative judgment of the tariff program. By contrast, 23.7% say tariffs may be helping manufacturing but require more time to assess, while 16.3% believe the policy is working and its critics have been proved largely wrong. The administration’s economic argument has not collapsed, but it has not carried the country.\",\"type\":\"unstyled\",\"depth\":0,\"inlineStyleRanges\":[],\"entityRanges\":[],\"data\":{}},{\"key\":\"7fttk\",\"text\":\"Yet the survey also reveals the limits of Democratic advantage. On the SAVE Act, which would require documentary proof of citizenship to register for federal elections, 64.5% say passage is important, including 58.8% who consider it extremely important. Support reaches beyond the Republican base and includes majorities of independents, every age group and every racial category measured.\",\"type\":\"unstyled\",\"depth\":0,\"inlineStyleRanges\":[],\"entityRanges\":[],\"data\":{}},{\"key\":\"32ar4\",\"text\":\"Anthony Fauci’s standing is another reminder that the electorate has not forgotten the controversies of the pandemic era. He is viewed unfavorably by 53.2% and favorably by 38.7%, with nearly half of voters holding a very unfavorable opinion.\",\"type\":\"unstyled\",\"depth\":0,\"inlineStyleRanges\":[],\"entityRanges\":[],\"data\":{}},{\"key\":\"cbfiv\",\"text\":\"The emerging picture is therefore not one of ideological conversion, but political punishment. Democrats lead because Republicans own the presidency, the economy and the consequences of policy. But the public remains skeptical of both parties and receptive to conservative positions on citizenship, institutional accountability and national sovereignty.\",\"type\":\"unstyled\",\"depth\":0,\"inlineStyleRanges\":[],\"entityRanges\":[],\"data\":{}},{\"key\":\"alloa\",\"text\":\"The midterms are still months away.
